Stand up paddling (SUP)

Stand up paddling is quite a new trend water sport. As the name implies, the stand up paddling, or SUPing, is performed standing on a large surfboard. To be able to move around and also catch waves at some point, you have one paddle in your hands. This sport is versatile and can be done in shallow water or in the wave. For beginners the shallow water is the first option to get a feel for the board and water. The SUP is very suitable for training balance and coordination. The more advanced and experienced SUPers can give it a try in the wonderful waves of Fuerteventura.

You can just borrow a board and get started on your own, or take a course in one of the schools in northern Fuerteventura.

Wave surfing

To learn surfing and enjoy beautiful waves you do not have to travel to Indonesia. The waves of the Atlantic ocean are incomparable and versatile! Especially on islands in the middle of the ocean, as the Canary Islands are, there are endless and good waves to surf! Depending on the season, tides and swells, Fuerteventura’s coasts always have a suitable wave for every level and board size.

If you have never surfed before, you should definitely take a course. Like this you can get to know the sea and its peculiarity better and get an easy start into the handling of equipment and surfing rules.

Lesano recommends the surf school Aloha Surf Academy. The smaller quality surf school is personal, friendly and a lot of fun. The family friendly atmosphere as well as surfers of different levels and all around the world make it easy to enjoy and learn surfing. The quality of the lessons is unique.

Wind surfing

Fuerteventura is known for its strong winds, especially in the summer time approximately from May to August. For this reason, Fuerteventura is considered one of the windsurfing hotspots in the scene. Windsurfers from all over the world visit the island to show their skills in windsurfing and windsurfing in the wave.

But not only professionals benefit from the favorable windsurfing  conditions; also for beginners or advanced there are many possibilities to become master of boards and sails. In the south of the island, René Egli has built a well-known windsurfing and kite school. But also in the north of Fuerteventura there are several windsurfing schools. If you are interested, but not sure which school to choose, just contact info@lesano.es. We are happy to advise you. Also in terms of lending the equipment.

Kite surfing

Not only windsurfers benefit from the strong winds on Fuerteventura, also the kitesurfers do. Whether beginner, advanced or professional, with wind you will always find a suitable place to fly the kite. Again, as a beginner it is recommended to do a course where you can learn everything about the ocean and techniques.

Yoga

There are many ways to learn and practice yoga in Fuerteventura. The various types of yoga are common on the island. You can either take a private yoga teacher or join a class inside or on the beach.

The Atlantic ocean has a beautiful underwater world around the shore of Fuerteventura. The volcanic landscapes, which can be seen on land, can also be admired under water. There are sunken ships, steep slopes and countless marine life – up to 390 species. The crystal clear water allows for a visibility of up to 30 m on calm, clear days.

The all year long mild climate makes diving or snorkeling possible even in winter; Underwater treasures can be admired during the whole year!

Hiking

The unique landscape on Fuerteventura with volcanos and turquoise lagoons, makes it fun to get to know the island a bit better. The best way to experience the history and flora and fauna of the Canary Islands is probably a good hike.

There are several riding stables in the north of Fuerteventura where it is possible to do a guided horseback ride – with or without experience.

Sight seeing

Starting with boat or catamaran tours to the small, northeastern island of Lobos up to a day trip to the south with a visit at the Villa Winter; Fuerteventura offers a variety of attractions. In any case you should also see the west coast with its endless beaches and the cliffs behind it. If you would like to visit another Canary Island, it´s within half an hour by ferry on Lanzarote. At the most southern point of the island, on a clear day you can see the island of Gran Canaria on the horizon.

Local shopping

If shopping is a favourite activity of yours and you also like to support local small business owners, you will be happy in the north of Fuerteventura! There are countless local shops that sell their mostly domestic products: from soap to clothes to self-sewn bags; in Lajares, Cotillo and Corralejo you will find the perfect souvenir for your home.

Especially in Lajares you can buy shirts, jewelry, candles, natural cosmetics and much more from artists living here. On Saturday morning at the crafts market at the plaza in the village square you will find everything that is handmade. Definitely worth a visit is the “gusty” shop in Lajares, where bags of recycled windsurfing sails and kites are made. Not only design and quality are important here, but also the sustainability and environment: all clothes that are available here, are of a Fairtrade label and colored with organic colour.
